Xmas is coming

Given up on blogging this year really. Got more inportant things in life to do !!. Anyway Car wise she sits in the garage with a nasty oil leak. I've got a second engine partially stripped on an engine stand with a good crank in it. So over winter I'ne going to get engine reconned and make a top engine out of two.

Must get arse in gear and remove the lump very soon. Then find good engine reconditioners.  Not a lot else to do over winter. Sort out front tie bar bushes and gets seats recovered and get a tonneau cover made.

Well weather has been crap so not that much use (Although I did take it to work yesterday). Over Xmas I made a new spare wheel retaining bracket which really hold its on the back panel much better. I have also ordered a recon distributor as I was not 100% happy with the 2nd hand one I bought and fitted recently. It could turn out to be fine but the new one has absolutely no play in it. Still waiting to be fitted though at the moment.

I MUST get around to fitting a sump guard before June this year as I have am off to Lemans and getting on the ferry is worrying me.

Just retaxed here for another year.

End of 07

Well 2007 is coming to an end. Car not got much use lately, although I did clean it today. Need to fix a loose number plate and that's about it at the moment.

Also need to update the meetings page with 2008 info.

Happy New Year to all......  Happy Hooding

Summer 07

Been very lax in my blogging lately.  Anyway v quick update.  Car was playing up on a run to Donnington, which seemed timing related. Changed the dizzy and not much different and then tracked down a lack of vacuum at idle. This is controlled by a heated air valve which had failed. Replaced the valve ( I had a spare in the garage) and seems much better.

Only set timing roughly at the moment so needs setting up again, but using it most days for the daily work hack.

Replaced both exhausts over the summer as the flexible downpipes that were on were crap.  Sounds lovely now on the overrun !!! Idles quiter than previous cans but gets LOUDER when you press the loud pedal.

Summer 2007

No summer at the mo - Horrendous rain has minimised use of Hood. However I have now replaced drivers side exhaust manifold gaskets, repaired downpipes and wrapped manifold and downpipes in Thermo Tec exhaust wrap. Also found hole in firewall below servo which was letting hot air into cabin. This has now been plugged.

Yet to really test it due to all the rain and being really busy at work.

April

After a recent oil change at a friends garage with new filter I wasn't 100% happy with the oil pressure, which was lower hot than running on GTX Magnatec last year, So have now replaced with fully synthetic HPX 20w 50. Oil pressure now better when hot.

Replaced blowing exhaust manifold gaskets 2 weeks ago and also fixed a fractured downpipe.

Used every day  this week for the work run. Off to Wales next weekend for a trip with the club.

Bonnet

Unfortunately Jim's (Robbo) bonnet didn't fit.   So still got mine on. Did get a couple of headlamp bowls off him though, which are a LOT shinier than mine and a couple of spare sealed beams.
Thinking of upgrading headlights at the same time, but dont know if I can be arsed, as it isn't used that much at night and they seem quite adequate to me.

MOT

Car flew through it's MOT again.  Been using it for work weather permitting as it snowed day before yesterday!!

Hoping to look at Jims bonnet at the weekend as a replacemnt for mine as it has vents and probably isn't as dented as mine!!

MOT

Mot is due soon so this is booked into tomorrow. Adjusted Handbrake on Saturday, fixed dodgy fuse which meant one main beam has stopped working, replaced indicator repeater bulb that wasn't quite as bright as it should be and also strapped spare to new spare wheel hoop with a tie down strap.

Charged battery overnight on Saturday (altough it didn't really need it as I was using it all last week).

That's about it at the mo. I'll advise how I get on at the MOT station.

Oh also changed insurance today to Roadsure. Was only £7 cheaper than Heritage , but with £100 less excess and 5000 instead of 3000 miles.  Job's a good un!!!!

News

Bloody News databse got hacked again. Slowly screwing the sceurity down. See how long the changes I make keep them out!!!

Must sort out slight oil leak from behing starter and fit some interior LEDS I got bought for Dad's day.   Also recently changed the remp gauge resistance - see if it any more accurate now.

Apart from that not a lot to say. Brillliant run out last weekend. Car behaved fine apart from wire on starter motor kept falling off. - Must tighten this up.  Also is cut out again last night. Must be a loose wire around the coil somewhere as judicious jugling sorted it. I tried to track it down a wire at a time but no luck. See how it goes!!

Fan

Fan wiring was a bit "iffy".  Now rewired using relay so should preserve the switch a bit better.

Also upgraded RHoCAR news website database to secure area as fed up of getting hacked. See how that goes.

Newark

Went to Newark last weekend. Very hot on Sat and got sunburnt.

Steerinh had gone slightly stiff and I suspected Steering rack. So on seeing a rack on a stand I bought one and decided to change it in the midday sun on the RHOCaR stand.  Anyway it's fitted nbut it wasn;t the rack!!! It was a seized steering UJ.

Oh well at least I have new rack and a spare one.

Exhaust

Passenger side exhaust cracked yesterday, just in front of the silencer where the flexible pipe meets it. Quick removal, bit of welding and a lick of paint sorted it.
