Hacked!!!

Website Blog got hacked again. The bastards.   Put some more security on it now.

Why would anyone want to hack a personal website.  More time on their hands than sense obviously.

Anyway car went OK at Wales. MOT later this week

2006 - Progress

Engine all back in - had water pump leak after 2 days so new water pump fitted. had a couple of minor water weeps. Had it pressure tested Monday night and now confident I've got them all.  Goes much better now valve clearances all set correct.

Would take it to work but it's been non stop rain this week. Need to get some miles on it before a Wales trip planned at end of March.

Progres
Well gearbox has returned with new layshaft and a new 3rd gear. A previous owner has drilled the box for a drain plug and smashed the magnet that was in the bottom of the maincase. This has been floating round the box!! Propshaft has been remade, bearings have been replaced in the lump, both mains and big ends. Valve clearances set today and rocker covers and water pump back on. will drop the lump off the engine stand this week and sort out the spigot bush, clutch and refit the gearbox. Barry is coming round next weekend for an engine installation day, so coming together slowly. Just need to get some new hoses and oil filter this week

Progress
Engine bay is now painted gloss black. Prop has gone away to be remade. Gearbox is with reconditioner. Rocker covers and sump have been painted and I have dropped a big end bearing cap to see if they need changing. No copper showing but I have decided to fit a set anyway. As soon as bits are sorted I will start putting back together.

Engine Bay
Well clutch is now removed and engine is sat on an engine stand in the garage. The engine bay has been cleaned, a couple of minor welds made and the whole engine bay has received a nice coat of red oxide primer.

Need to get bits now for some engine work.

Update

Well car came off the road in October and I have disconnected everything from the engine in preparation for dragging it out and changing the clutch and prop. Also I will re-condition the gearbox at the same time.
Unfortunately house stuff got in the way and I ended up sorting out our downstairs bathroom so my garage looks a tip at the moment.  WIll sort out in the next few weeks, so I can play with the car over Christmas.

Disaster

Disaster !!!!! It appears my database that powers this journal has become corrupt and I have lost a couple of months postings. It looks like it was hacked into and all settings changed as well!!!
So I have now reset to an old copy of the database and I now have a daily job that pulls down a backup of the database and keeps a unique copy every day. That way I should be able to restore it at any time in the future !!!

Wing Mirrors
Have fitted some different wing mirrors kindly donated by my mate Barry. Brackets are a bit crude but seem to do the job. At least I can see behind me now as the last ones were next to useless

Water Woes

Water Woes
Well I spoke too soon on the last blog, saying car had behaved well. Whilst in Newark I had noticed a single drop of water on front of engine. I started it up and couldn't see anything, so ignored it. Took it to work on the Monday and parked it outside when returned home. When I went to put it in the garage at night I noticed a "pool" of something underneath.   Anyway on further inspection I traced it to a gasket under the temp sender housing. However on removal discovered the housing was cracked !!. Mr Ford don't sell em anymore so a post on the XR owners club forum tracked down a spare ( at a very reasonable price). Just waiting for it to turn up now.

Newark
Travelled to Newark for weekend. Car behaved great apart from I pulled the wire of the cigarette lighter. I fixed it on the club stand on Saturday. Also bought new gearknob, hacksawed an inch or so of gearstick on the stand as well as fitted it. It's much better now.

exhausts
Discovered a fuse blown for drivers sides lights. Replaced seems OK. Went to monthly meet tonight and noticed exhaust was coming adrift, where the flexible pipe meets the silencer. Friend of mine is going to mig weld it tomorrow.

Leccy Fan

Previously my Leccy fan was wired in to ignition. Which was fine most of the time, but if stopping for fuel on the Motorway it got a bit warm, so decided to wire it direct.

Initially wired it into the existing feed for the radio and clock (bad mistake) as only covered by 8 amp fuse, and after about half an hour driving it melted the fuse. So stopped at motor factors bought a new in-line fuse and 25 amp fuse and wired that direct.  Seems all OK now.
