Tyres

My local tyre shop were a disaster. As car is based on old Ford Cortina tyres are only 175/70/13. There are not many tyres about with an H rating at that size. They couldn't get Yoko's, Ordered some Continentals which turned up with a T rating so ended up getting some Goodyear Eagle GA's. Had those fitted and seems a lot grippier at the back.

Tyres
Read event page for news on a terrible day, when one of my Tyres went oval. Local tyre place is sourcing 2 x new Yokohamas for me (hopefully today) and they will go on back axle.

Handbrake
Fixed Handbrake - Probably only temporarily. With a new end. Cable now at it's absolute shortest, so if it goes again will need to replace. Hope it will last until end of summer when lump comes out

Brakes

Checked n/s calipers are free and working but brakes still pull to right. ?? When I had freed off pads on right I had swapped pads round so returned them to original location and now pulls to left!!.

So I though sod this and went to see if Halfrauds had a set. £7.49 for a set and has 2 in stock. So I bought these went home and fitted them. (Took me 21 minutes from driving in to garage to driving out.  Took it for test and much better.

Anyway wifes car had a flat tyre this morning, so she took my Jag. Thought I'll get the kit out and take that to work. Rolled it out of the garage, pulled the handbrake on to be greeted by a TWANG as the drivers side cable let go. Oh well will have to investigate tonight if I want to go to Cheshire in it on Sunday.

Exhausts

The VHT silver paint I used on the Exhausts was next to useless, although the Barbeque paint ( I prefer stealth black) I used on the tail pipes seems to stick like sh*t to a blanket. So On Sunday I rubbed both pipes down and painted the lot in black.   Had a problem on the n/s with paint crackling but have sorted it now.

Brakes started pulling to the left slightly so freed up o/s pistons and ensured pads moving free in caliper. Guess what! Now pulls to the right. So will sort out n/s caliper tonight.

Interior Light

Well I fitted an interior light, just manually operated by a flick switch on the centre console. Also rewired the fag lighter to work without the ignition being on.

Picked up a feed from the previous feed (blue wire) that fed the clock. Used to run permanent + to the centre console (red wire) and feed both light and fag lighter via the larger multi block.

Exhaust

Been quiet on the blog for a while. Needed to do something with the exhausts as pointing directly at the tyres, also lets fumes in when hood is on. So found a universal 3 inch 90 degree bend from Burton Power (jetex universal parts) and ordered two. When they arrived they were much bigger than I thought , but after cutting about 3 inch from back of the existing cherry bombs they fit.
Much better noise at an idle but no different under acceleration.
Will post a piccy when I get a chance

Cooling

Forget to update site for a few days. !! After Stafford the Coolant was noticeably dirty. A rusty colour with foam on top. So drained & flushed through completely. Topped back up with new antifreeze and cleaned header tank. Looks much better now.

Car being used daily for the short commute I do. Hood left on in case of rain.

MOT

Car went for MOT today. I was slightly concerned re the pulling brakes, but it was only minimal, however on the brake testing machine both brakes pulled in harmony. No other problems so I acquired a ticket for another year. Yippee....

Brakes

Following Stafford it was noticable that the brakes were pulling to the left. Spent last night re-bleeding the fronts and checking calipers.

All seem OK, but still pulling "slightly" this morning. Oh well got MOT tomorrow so see if it's bad enough to fail.

Also fitted new rev counter last night. Bought off ebay. Works great and matches other clocks as from a Triumph 2500 PI.

Stafford

Well took it to Stafford on Saturday with No 1 son. Set off at 6.50!!!. Met Barry at 7.00 and after stopping for juice set off. Arrived at Knutsford at 8.20. There were about 10 - 15 hoods already there. Some one heard from NW group that they weren't stopping at Knutsford so we set off and joined the Mway. Joined the NW crew and sort of ended up in formation. (there was a chap behind me one minute at the back, but when I looked again he'd disappeared?)

Anyway arrived OK. Good show. Bought some new reversing and fog lights and fitted at the show. Also positive battery terminal cover. Trip back (no hood) was chilly but fun.

Swirl pot does not work though. As soon as £12.00 is used the thing dies round lefty hand corners. Spoke th Bryn from Allyfab at the show, who was surprised, but said if I return will fabricate additional swirl pot below tank. Said I'll leave until after the summer now.

Roadworthy

Well taxed it yesterday so I could try and take it to Stafford show on Sat. Fired up OK and drove to Petrol station OK. Filled it up and took it out for about 40 mins. Drove OK apart from pulling to the left quite badly. Got home a cleaned out drivers side front caliper.

Took to work this morning (blood windy) and brakes seem a lot better but still pulling slightly. Will see if improves otherwise will be looking at changing calipers.

Roll on Stafford show!

The Beast she breathes

Fitted filler cap pipe on Fri night and turned over whilst in the garage. Put about £4.00 in tank and after about 20 turn overs to get fuel through she fired up for 1st time since Sept.

Fitted some more pipe clips on Sat and dropped onto wheels. Took out of garage on Sunday and cleaned. Took down road to see if OK and stalled about 100 yards from my house. !!!  Fired up again and drove back. ??

Think it stalled due to Fuel starvation as I was going round left hand bend. I hope swirl pot is OK and working?? Filled 2 x more cans of juice and tried again. so should be about £12.00 in it. Also coughed a bit round corner. Not looking too promising. Anyway couldn't really test as need to tax. Car is still Mot'd but will need to arrange another, so will test on way to garage. Hope I don't have to use with a full tank all the time.

Looking to tax 01st April so nearly there!!!

Tank
1 metre of hose and JIC-6 fitting turned up today so tank fitted. Had to turn a hose adapter up from a block of ally to go from new hose to intermediate hose and then joins via brass tube found previously to orig fuel pipe.

Bit Heath Robinson but we'll see if it works. Connected up pump and sender and Fuel filler. Bit too late to start it as garage is below bedroom! Will wait till weekend.

Tank

Seat still out but leaving until tank fitted. Tank collected from AllyFab and what a nice piece of kit it is. Welding is top notch. Hope internal swirl pot and pump work satisfactory.

Can't fit straight away as there is a competition adapter utilised on the outside of the tank, so had to order some special hose and a JIC -6 female adapter to connect the hose to. Ordered from Speedflow yesterday. Awaiting delivery. Got a can full of petrol in preparation. Can't wait to fire it up again.

Not managed to refit seats this week. Spoke to Allyfab and tank is ready for collection tomorrow. Have arranged to pick up Sat am.

Petrol Pumps

Spent last night removing the old petrol pumps and then decided to take out the passenger seat as there were some holes left where the pump mounting cage went through the floor that I wanted to block up with new nut & bolts. Then decided to paint floor before putting back seat, which I completed tonight. Seat can go back in tomorrow. Also found a perfect brass tube to connect the original  petrol pipe to the new fuel injection hose. (from a telescopic magnet). It's thin so I hope it's strong enough, but I think it will be.
Rang Allyfab today, and tank "should" be completed by this weekend. Arranged to go down Fri night to Mums and collect on way back on Sat.

Audio Jack Plug.
Finished wiring in  a headphone socket in the centre console last night. Works from the spare front speaker feeds to a jack plug and should allow me to hear some tunes on the motorway.

Tank

Rang AllyFab Tues. Tank not ready until end of next week!
Oh well have to just wait. In Meantime made up jack plug for stereo in center console, to allow headphones, as car is bl**dy noisy.
Car jacked up and on stands, petrol pipe to old pump is soaked in WD40 and will try and remove old pumps etc this week.
